Cushioning properties and application of expanded polystyrene for a dynamic nonlinear system

To explore the cushioning properties of expanded polystyrene (EPS), a novel two-degree-of-freedom mathematical model is proposed with dynamic nonlinear system and successfully implemented it. The maximum response acceleration product was first determined in used as parameter for evaluating damage. Furthermore, drop test carried out to verify theoretical showed good consistency. Based on correct model, number simulations different heights thicknesses cushion were done investigate EPS. results show that EPS can reduce by more than 20% excitation acceleration. Thus, has ability be packaging material protect products. Finally, applied an example application. A new method constructing curve recommended, which could replace traditional ASTM D 1596 method.
